A pressure switch is a mechanical part that is usually found in the pressure tank. Using a small diaphragm and spring system, this switch turns on and off the pump when it detects pressure in your home’s plumbing system. Depending on the system’s design, these switches can be set to different cut-in and cut-out pressure readings. A 30/50 psi or 40/60 psi pressure cycle is the most common setting for pressure switches. When the system’s pressure drops to the cut-off point, a best well pump pressure switch activates and turns it off when the system’s pressure rises to the cut-off point. Every time a home’s faucet or other fixture is turned on, a pump would need to be running. Because well pumps are not designed to operate rapidly or continuously, this constant on-and-off would significantly reduce the pump.
